Afii

Youth & family Programmes Coordinator

Hi, my name is Afii and I am the youth co-ordinator at the Paper Garden. I was a local mum visiting the Paper Garden and fell in love with the space and knew instantly I wanted to be a part of this. Luckily, my background is in youth work so when they told me they had an opening to work with the Generator programme I was super ecstatic! I've always had a deep passion for working with young people and the community. I used to work specifically with young offenders; helping them rebuild their lives and making sure that they did not reoffend. This wasn't an easy task, but it was a challenge I loved taking on and it was very rewarding. Because of my hard work and dedication to this role, I was given an Award by the local Mayor for my service to the community. It was such a great privilege to receive this and I definitely knew that this was not where I wanted to stop.

I had never mixed youth work and gardening together before so when I started working with Global Generation to help run the Generator programme, it was a great eye opener. I am a firm believer that children and young people really thrive in nature and that the great outdoors gives them a sense of safety and happiness. I see it first-hand with my own two beautiful children. Watching them grow with nature and exploring the earth, I recognise that it really helps them think about the world we live in and the changes they would like to make.
