Paper Garden is part of Open House London
Drop into the Paper Garden on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September from 11am-4pm for guided tours where you’ll learn how sustainable building techniques were used to turn a redundant industrial shed into a warm, welcoming space that we all enjoy today!
Co-building has become an integral part of Global Generation’s engagement activities with corporate and community volunteers of all ages participating. Working in this way, 3000 people were involved who will take the message about the project back to their communities. Built from 60% reused materials (measured by volume), the Paper Garden also features:
cordwood walls, made with timber logs from Epping Forest tree pruning bedded in lime mortar and reclaimed oak railway sleepers donated by Network Rail
floors made from 200 doors reclaimed from a police station that was being demolished locally
plywood was sourced from upcycled construction hoarding
windows are reject stock donated by Scandinavian window manufacturer, Nordan.
The tours will be led by Jan Kattein Architects and Global Generation.
