Nurturing community and nature in Canada Water
A garden unfolds
The Paper Garden has been created on the site of the old Daily Mail printworks in Canada Water. In 2021 it moved from its original location on the site of the old printing press to its current site of the former paper warehouse. It provides an invaluable community-focused green space in this rapidly developing area.
Making the Paper Garden
Local primary school children, families, young people and businesses have been transforming the site, reusing the site’s original materials wherever possible and co-creating abundant growing spaces.

“If you stood here a few years ago, you would have seen a grey stretch of concrete with a bare metal frame. No growth, no nature, no life. Now it has been transformed into a peaceful, green space, full of vibrant colour. Climbing plants twine up the metal frame. The huge mounds are bursting with biodiverse plants. The polytunnel is full of succulent fruit and veg. This is a place of creativity, fun and thoughtfulness.”
