Story Garden will be temporarily closed this winter
Story Garden will be temporarily closed from Friday, December 20 to Monday, February 17.
What does this mean?
This means that there will be no access to the Story Garden during this time, including to Community Growers beds and storage areas as well as for programmes, activities and events. Some of our activities will be relocated to other spaces. MAKE Space sessions and activities will be delivered from the Community Climate Learning Hub for the duration of the closure.
Why is this happening?
The closure is because Stanhope Plc (the development managers responsible for building the extension of the British Library) will be doing some investigation work on site and it will not be safe. These works are out of the control of Global Generation and MAKE Space, and we're very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We've been told by Stanhope that these works will not be noisy and therefore should not affect local residences or businesses. Please contact our team if you would like to be put in contact with Jeremy Ruff, who is providing construction logistics advice to Stanhope, or if you have any concerns.
What happens after the winter?
The good news is that once these temporary works are over, from Tuesday 18 February, the garden will open its doors again and all usual activities will resume until the end of September 2025, when our lease expires and we will have to make way for the extension of the British Library, and we will move to our permanent home location just a few moments away on the other side of King's Cross.
