Sue
Head Of Gardens
As a child growing up in the countryside I just wanted to be outside exploring the natural world, and as I grew older that became the one thing I was certain I wanted in a job. After studying Fine Art, I soon gravitated to gardening and over time have deepened my knowledge of nature and landscape through an evolving career in horticulture and landscape design, encompassing botanic garden education, social and therapeutic horticulture, permaculture and forest gardening as well as developing and running community growing projects and tending an allotment.
With an MA in Landscape Architecture from Greenwich, I worked on urban and rural projects in the UK and abroad before returning my focus to working from the ground up, making gardens from scratch in my local community and beyond.
Inspired by good design and recognising the innate need for people to connect with nature, I've set up and run a wide range of gardens, from large public spaces open to all, gardens that support homeless people's recovery and learning, gardens for brain injury survivors and gardens for children and young people.
From beekeeping, forest gardening, foraging and food growing to promoting weeds and urban wildness, I thrive on new projects and start ups and making London a greener place to live.
